Term 2 The Middle Team had an outstanding visit to Waitomo Caves, the Education Centre and Museum then went for a stroll around Ruakuri Walk. The children were filled with 'wonderment and awe' at all of the different sights. Waitomo is a great resource for children to not only look at the science aspect but also the social studies side looking at Tourism, communities and identity.
"How are we identified as NZer’s?" We will be looking at Kiwiana, Icons, Famous New Zealanders, Places in NZ, myths and legends, and what identifies us as New Zealanders. Check out our home learning to show some of the information we have found.

New Zealand has lots of different icons. Some represent towns others represent things that show we are New Zealanders. Keep an eye out for our maps with icons and place names. We have had to find towns and cities on the map of New Zealand then find out interesting facts or their icons.
One of the icons which children often are unfamiliar with is the NZ Coat of Arms. See if you can find out more about our 'Coat of Arms'.

We have been looking at class rules, rights and responsibilities. We have created a class treaty with heading and then explanations of what we should see or do.
